Not seeing

Haggling is a one-dimensional form of argument, and the natural limitations on what can come out of a session of haggling are probably comforting to those people who choose to interact that way. But the one-dimensional approach (More! Less!) is blind to many other possibilities which could lead to discovery or agreement.

When competition is valued too highly, people are judged as winners, losers, or irrelevant. Or they are seen as supporters, impediments, or “others.” This, too, is a one-dimensional approach, and the blind spot now includes all the people not engaging along the line.

In trying to win an argument, most of the world is left unseen, and the little that is seen is a fabrication.
